  • Research Interests and Activities:
    Scott Ollinger conducts research on carbon and nitrogen cycling in forests with emphasis on basic ecological processes and interactions with human-induced environmental stressors. Specific research activities include projects that relate canopy chemistry in forests to spatial and temporal patterns in forest biogeochemistry; forest-climate feedbacks, modeling the effects of air pollution, rising CO2, disturbance history and climate change on forest ecosystems, and scaling local measurements of forest C and N fluxes to landscape and regional scales using high spectral resolution remote sensing. Ollinger is Principal Investigator on several projects that are part of the North American Carbon Program and involve understanding the controls on ecosystem carbon assimilation and forest-climate feedbacks across a variety of scales. He serves as an associate editor for Biogeochemistry (2004-), a steering committee member for the Northeastern Ecosystem Research Cooperative (2004-) and is on the Board of Directors of the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON). He also serves or has served on the U.S. EPA Science Advisory Board''s Ecological Effects Subcommittee, Ecological Effects of the Clean Air Act (2004- 2005), and two Hubbard Brook Research Foundation''s Science Links Projects (2001-2003, 2005-).
